Terms of Use

By using HeyShima you agree to these terms.
- Licence. We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for learning Japanese. Don't redistribute, resell, or reverse-engineer the app or its content.
- Age. HeyShima is for learners aged 13 and over (16 and over where your country's law sets that as the age of digital consent). It isn't directed at younger children, and you shouldn't create an account if you're under that age. If we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we'll delete it and its data.
- Accounts. You can try the first lessons without an account. An account is needed to go further, and you're responsible for activity under it. You can delete your account at any time in the app.
- HeyShima Pro. Some content needs a HeyShima Pro subscription or a one-off lifetime purchase, bought through Apple's In-App Purchase and billed to your Apple account. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may vary by country. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and period until you cancel them in your Apple account settings at least 24 hours before the current period ends. A free trial, where offered, converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before then. The lifetime purchase is a single payment and does not renew. Refunds are handled by Apple under its terms. Deleting your HeyShima account does not cancel a subscription.
- Acceptable use. Don't abuse the feedback system or attempt to disrupt the service.
- Content and attribution. The app includes openly licensed third-party data and media: dictionary data © EDRDG, stroke data © KanjiVG/Ulrich Apel CC BY-SA, vocabulary audio © Tofugu LLC CC BY-SA, synthesised kana voice VOICEVOX:玄野武宏, and the Klee One font under the SIL OFL. Full credits are on our Licences and credits page and in the app under Settings.
- No warranty. The app is provided "as is". Features may change, and data loss, while unlikely, is possible.
- Liability. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the app.
- Changes. We may update these terms; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
